Who is this enquiry for?
What is IDDIDD Therapy?
A non-surgical treatment for disc problems, done on a computer-controlled table. It gently decompresses the exact part of your spine causing the problem, aiming to take pressure off the disc and nerves, while a slow rhythm helps the disc take on fluid and nutrients.
It was developed as an alternative to injections or surgery. The gentle, rhythmic movement also aims to relax muscle spasm and help the joints move more freely. Your treatment is tailored to you!

Frequently asked questions
Who is this offer valid for?
The offer is for new patients. IDD Therapy is used for disc-related back and neck problems, such as bulging, herniated and prolapsed discs, degenerative disc disease and sciatica. Your osteopath checks whether it suits you at the consultation.
What is Spinal Decompression Therapy (IDD Therapy)?
IDD Therapy is a non-surgical spinal decompression treatment for disc problems. It is gentle and non-invasive, and aims to ease pain and help you get back to your normal activities.
It was developed as an alternative to injections or surgery. Advanced technology gently decompresses the exact segment of your spine causing the problem, to take pressure off the disc and nerves. A gentle oscillating movement helps the disc take on fluid and nutrients, relaxes muscle spasm and helps the joints move more freely.
Treatment is tailored to you, and our osteopaths work closely with you to monitor your progress.
Is IDD Therapy only for disc problems?
It's mainly used for disc problems, but at Stockwood Osteopathic Clinic our osteopaths treat most types of back and neck problems. Answer the questions above and our team will call to talk it through and book a consultation.
What is the difference between an Osteopath, Physiotherapist and Chiropractor?
Although all three professions can be used to treat the same health conditions, they differ in their philosophy and approach to treatment. Each is regulated by its own statutory body in the UK, and physiotherapists and osteopaths are recognised as Allied Health Professions within the NHS. We recommend choosing someone you feel comfortable with.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No, you do not need to be referred by a doctor to see us. Osteopathy is one of the NHS's Allied Health Professions, and osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), so you can book with us directly.
What is your new patient procedure?
All new patients will need to have an initial consultation.
MEDICAL HISTORY: We will discuss your health concerns and take your medical history. Please bring details on any medications you are taking and scan results if you have them.
PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT: You may be asked to undress in order for the osteopath to correctly assess your posture and spine. It is recommended to wear loose fitting clothing, e.g. a t-shirt or vest, loose trousers, shorts or leggings. The osteopath will perform some tests to diagnose your problem and provide you with advice on how to best recover.
TREATMENT: Once a diagnosis has been reached, your osteopath will discuss a treatment plan with you and suggest the approximate number of sessions that will be suitable. Hands-on treatment is not included in the consultation. Your osteopath may also advise on lifestyle and dietary adjustments to aid in the healing process. In the event that osteopathy is unsuitable for your problem, you will be referred to the correct healthcare modality.
The free session of IDD Therapy is subject to a valid MRI scan (free referral included) and consultation eligibility, and is booked separately, after the initial consultation.
What should I wear?
It is recommended to wear comfortable loose fitting clothing, e.g. shorts or leggings. Your osteopath may ask you to undress to assess your posture and spine.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
This will depend on your problem or injury. However, every "body" is different and will heal at a different rate depending on various factors including your age, general health, occupation, lifestyle and diet.
Can you refer me for a scan?
Yes, we can refer you for an MRI scan if we deem it necessary.
